    Local market development for Shan Yuan Chinese Restaurant

    Shan Yuan Chinese Restaurant (SYCR) is a Chinese restaurant located at 228 Victoria Street, Hamilton. As the most sinological Chinese restaurants in Hamilton, SYCR has always tried to provide customers with the best service and food. Despite this, SYCR restaurant is now facing a crisis in the market because of the turbulent New Zealand food industry. The purpose of this report is to enable the investigator to gain experience in finding and solving problems through individual research. The investigator accomplished data collection through observation, interviews and questionnaire. The researcher found that the problems that SYCR was facing were mainly reflected in four aspects: cultural differences, market competition, online marketing strategic, political factors. The researcher provided four different suggestions in each of these aspects, which can be summarised as website operation, university cooperation, social media strategic, and political study

    Enhancing Web Browsing Security

    Web browsing has become an integral part of our lives, and we use browsers to perform many important activities almost everyday and everywhere. However, due to the vulnerabilities in Web browsers and Web applications and also due to Web users\u27 lack of security knowledge, browser-based attacks are rampant over the Internet and have caused substantial damage to both Web users and service providers. Enhancing Web browsing security is therefore of great need and importance.;This dissertation concentrates on enhancing the Web browsing security through exploring and experimenting with new approaches and software systems. Specifically, we have systematically studied four challenging Web browsing security problems: HTTP cookie management, phishing, insecure JavaScript practices, and browsing on untrusted public computers. We have proposed new approaches to address these problems, and built unique systems to validate our approaches.;To manage HTTP cookies, we have proposed an approach to automatically validate the usefulness of HTTP cookies at the client-side on behalf of users. By automatically removing useless cookies, our approach helps a user to strike an appropriate balance between maximizing usability and minimizing security risks. to protect against phishing attacks, we have proposed an approach to transparently feed a relatively large number of bogus credentials into a suspected phishing site. Using those bogus credentials, our approach conceals victims\u27 real credentials and enables a legitimate website to identify stolen credentials in a timely manner. to identify insecure JavaScript practices, we have proposed an execution-based measurement approach and performed a large-scale measurement study. Our work sheds light on the insecure JavaScript practices and especially reveals the severity and nature of insecure JavaScript inclusion and dynamic generation practices on the Web. to achieve secure and convenient Web browsing on untrusted public computers, we have proposed a simple approach that enables an extended browser on a mobile device and a regular browser on a public computer to collaboratively support a Web session. A user can securely perform sensitive interactions on the mobile device and conveniently perform other browsing interactions on the public computer

    Space qualified nanosatellite electronics platform for photon pair experiments

    We report the design and implementation of a complete electronics platform for conducting a quantum optics experiment that will be operated on board a 1U CubeSat (a 10 x 10 x 10 cm satellite). The quantum optics experiment is designed to produce polarization-entangled photon pairs using non-linear optical crystals and requires opto-electronic components such as a pump laser, single photon detectors and liquid crystal based polarization rotators in addition to passive optical elements. The platform provides mechanical support for the optical assembly. It also communicates autonomously with the host satellite to provide experiment data for transmission to a ground station. A limited number of commands can be transmitted from ground to the platform enabling it to switch experimental modes. This platform requires less than 1.5W for all operations, and is space qualified. The implementation of this electronics platform is a major step on the road to operating quantum communication experiments using nanosatellites.Comment: 6 pages, 11 figure

    Silicon avalanche photodiode operation and lifetime analysis for small satellites

    Silicon avalanche photodiodes (APDs) are sensitive to operating temperature fluctuations and are also susceptible to radiation flux expected in satellite-based quantum experiments. We introduce a low power voltage adjusting mechanism to overcome the effects of in-orbit temperature fluctuations. We also present data on the performance of Si APDs after irradiation (gamma-ray and proton beam). Combined with an analysis of expected orbital irradiation, we propose that a Si APD in a 400 km equatorial orbit may operate beyond the lifetime of the satellite.Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures, accepted by Optics Expres

    Three-body interactions on a triangular lattice

    We analyze the hard-core Bose-Hubbard model with both the three-body and nearest neighbor repulsions on the triangular lattice. The phase diagram is achieved by means of the semi-classical approximation and the quantum Monte Carlo simulation. For a system with only the three-body interactions, both the supersolid phase and one third solid disappear while the two thirds solid stably exists. As the thermal behavior of the bosons with nearest neighbor repulsion, the solid and the superfluid undergo the 3-state Potts and the Kosterlitz-Thouless type phase transitions, respectively. In a system with both the frustrated nearest neighbor two-body and three-body interactions, the supersolid and one third solid revive. By tuning the strength of the three-body interactions, the phase diagram is distorted, because the one-third solid and the supersolid are suppressed.Comment: 6 pages, 11 figure

    Supersolidity and phase diagram of softcore bosons in a triangular lattice

    We study the softcore extended Bose Hubbard model in a two-dimensional triangular lattice by using the quantum Monte Carlo methods. The ground state phase diagram of the system exhibits a very fruitful structure. Except the Mott insulating state, four kinds of solid states with respect to the commensurate filling factors ρ=1/3,2/3\rho=1/3,2/3 and ρ=1\rho=1 are identified. Two of them (CDW II and CDW III) are newly predicted. In incommensurate fillings, superfluid, spuersolid as well as phase separation states are detected . As in the case for the hardcore bosons, a supersolid phase exists in 1/3<ρ<2/31/3<\rho<2/3 while it is unstable towards the phase separation in ρ<1/3\rho<1/3. However, this instability is refrained in 2/3<ρ<12/3<\rho<1 due to the softening of the bosons and then a supersolid phase survives.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure
